Development of Diluvian Arc


About Us

The team constists of two software developer who are passionate gamers, so we eventually started exploring some of the subareas of game development and finally decided to be part of the 32Bit Summer Games 2024.

Résumé:

It was a fun little project with the goal to test our ideas of a game concept. We have learned a lot about the process of making games. First we started with too ambitios plans but hit the break after a recap of the first development days and tried to focus on what could be done within the time limit. We are happy about the outcome of the project (even after finding some bugs past submission) and will definitly finish up and polish Diluvian Ark.

The development approximately took 250h over the course of 3 weaks since we were complete beginners.

Chronological Events:

Day -30 to -3:

  •   learn the basics of godot, blender, shaders and sound effect creation
  •   decided to join the 32Bit Summer Games 2024 to improve our knowledge

Day -3 to day 1:

  •   learn how to handle hex maps and calculate on the coordinate systems
  •   implement a basic hex system with dijkstra for shortest path calculation

Day 2:

  •   discuss the general game concept

Day 3-10:

  •   created 3D Model for a Character
  •   narrowing down our ambitious plans after eventually finding out that 3 weaks are relativly short, so we decided to use mainly available assets and focus on developing our own game mechanics/Combat system
  •   implement character base class
  •   implement map rendering
  •   implement Map Editor
  •   implement Menu

Day 10-20

  •   adding characters and enemies
  •   create character actions and combat system
  •   add Pickups
  • create HUD Elements
  •   edit/layer/mix/master sounds

Day 21-22

  •   create game intro
  •   created 5 Maps including  Tutorial
  •   playtests, bugfixes, balancing character and enemy stats
